TJ's Trip To New York

September 11, 2001 Early morning at 8:46 a.m., five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the World Trade Center's North Tower (1 WTC), and at 9:03 a.m., another five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower (2 WTC).Five hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m.

The attacks resulted in the death of 2,996 people, including the 19 hijackers and 2,977 victims. The victims included 246 on the four planes (from which there were no survivors), 2,606 in New York City in the towers and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. Nearly all of the victims were civilians; 55 military personnel were among those killed at the Pentagon. The deaths of adults who were killed in the attacks or died in rescue operations resulted in over 3,000 children losing a parent.

On September 14, 2001 a joint resolution was passed by the United States Congress authorizing U.S. Presidents to fight terrorists and the nations that harbor them called the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists. Following the attacks, President Bush's approval rating soared to 90%. On September 20, 2001 he addressed the nation and a joint session of the United States Congress regarding the events of September 11 and the subsequent nine days of rescue and recovery efforts, and described his intended response to the attacks. New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani's highly visible role won him high praise in New York and nationally.

September 11, 2010 our daughter TJ went to New York for her Birthday. It was supposed to be a girls trip. Her girlfriends had situations come up that prevented them from going. Although she was disappointed she refused to let it keep her from the opportunity to fulfill her dream of going to New York. Since the September 11, 2001 bombings New York has become more personal for her. She went alone!

We will never forget 9/11's horrible bombing, death, and tragedies. I was at work when my daughter TJ called screaming and crying "Mom I will never celebrate my birthday again". She was inconsolable. I don't think the people at her job could get her to calm down and do any work for the rest of the day. I felt so helpless.

TJ was right. Her birthday will NEVER be the same. It is now considered 9/11 National Memorial Day. Every year on 9/11 the sound of my daughter's cry on the phone from 2001 consume me with the sadness of her voice, along with the memories, and thoughts, of all the families that suffered the lost of loved ones on that horrific day.  9/11 is a somber day for us all, but we still celebrate TJ's birthday but, 9/11 memorial always linger in our minds.

Since that awful tragedy I have noticed she seem to have a quiet sadness within that she can't seem to shake on her birthday. I believe in time she will start to embrace it like she used to.

TJ's four night stay was in a beautiful balcony suite at the Park Central Hotel with a view of  Times Square. When she arrived she was famished. After checking her room and dropping off her bags she proceeded across the street to quaint little deli.

She ordered a hamburger with fries you know not a big deal. However, it was the most expensive hamburger she said she has ever eaten totaling $30.00... Wow!

TJ and her work associates John who lives in New York went to a fabulous restaurant Blue Water Grill in Union Square West Manhattan. She said her waiter looked like a cross between Simon Baker and Bradley Cooper. They received excellent service, and the food was delicious.

TJ had an extensive to do/see list, but her most important objective was to go to the site of the 9/11 attack to visit the memorial museum and pay homage to the victims that lost their lives on her birthday nine years earlier.

The visit to the museum, although overwhelmingly emotional, was life changing. She also went to see the Broadway play "Wicked", and thought it was one of the most awesome things she had ever seen. In New York there are so many things to see, and places to go. It is unbelievable.

TJ's most favorite things about the trip was the King Tutt exhibit, visiting the Statue of Liberty, shopping in department stores in Times Square at two AM, being able to hop on the subway and get anywhere....including lost....and hopping another to find your way back!

With her work associates Nirmalya, and Tej went out for Sushi in the East Village. They also had dessert at Max Brenner: Chocolate by The Bald Man. She said they had the best chocolate martini's and fondue ever! They even had a chocolate pizza.

TJ had a wonderful time in New York I wish I had been there too. TJ's work associates living in New York wanted to show her some interesting places to visit and eat. They definitely did show her a good time. She was elated and grateful to see people don't mind taking the time out of their busy lives to help you enjoy one of the most fabulous places in the world!

We were happy she enjoyed her trip because she definitely deserves it, and she can not wait to go back.
